Randon News/Ain’t it Thoughts (Week of February 25, 2011)

This gallery contains 1 photos.

Again, for the second time this year I find myself staring at a blank page trying to make something appear via the movement of my fingertips. Honestly, I’ve started four different posts this week and I haven’t finished nary a one. I’ve got a ton of boo-boo on my brain so it’s been hard filtering it all out. Continue reading

A Few Thoughts on Egypt

This gallery contains 1 photos.

For those of you who are members of the blissfully ignorant, don’t watch the news, or spend your time reading media takeout I’m here to inform your one dimensional selves that there was a little revolution in Egypt that lasted for about three weeks and still isn’t exactly over yet. It’s actually kind of a big deal. Considering the neighborhood, Egypt’s possible move away from a dictatorship was rather bloodless. Continue reading

Question: What is your favorite play that stars or is about black people? Is it A Raisin in The Sun? How about A Soldier’s Play? Maybe it’s Madea Gets a Pap Smear. Well my favorite is The Piano Lesson by August Wilson. Continue reading

The Recession Summed up in One Song.

Last summer I was watching VH-1 Soul (Before the animals at Comcast replaced it with that Centric bullsh*t. That’s what the world needed, Soul Train re-runs from 75 and Steve Harvey and his sycophants.) and I saw a cat singing a song called “I Need a Dollar”. I saw the video a few more times before Comcast switched my viewing selection and I kind of forgot about the song. A while back my homies, The Good Ole Boys had Aloe Blacc, the artist who performs “I Need a Dollar” as a guest on their radio show and this put the song back into my thoughts. Continue reading

Random News/Ain’t it Thoughts (Week of February 4th, 2010)

It’s been a pretty good week. I actually got two good nights sleep and my neighbors have been relatively quiet for two animals in heat. (Who knows what Saturday night will bring? I just hope not to be there Saturday night.) I’m actually excited about watching the Super Bowl there year, although the Raiders, once again didn’t get anywhere near the big game. So without further adieu here are this weeks Random News/ Ain’t it Thoughts selections. Continue reading

Unknown Black Heroes: Edward A. Carter Jr.

As a part of my initiative to do something different for Black History Month I plan on putting people on to little known black people who have made a mark in different areas of American history. We all know about the steadfast leadership of MLK, the resolve of Rosa Parks, A. Phillip Randolph’s foresight, and Madame C.J. Walker’s business savvy. Well there are tons of other black men and women who lived through strife to do extraordinary things in extraordinary places. Continue reading

Sometimes when you keep score both teams lose.

This gallery contains 1 photos.

A few weeks ago the nation, along with Toronto, Canada and Hiroshima, Japan celebrated Martin Luther King Jr’s Birthday. It goes without saying but MLK was a peace loving cat.* During the days following MLK day I thought about a few issues that MLK would stand behind and all I could come up with was keeping score. ** MLK obviously had to know how to endure things and let things go while he was striving to carve out a place for minorities, and the nation’s poor. Apparently mental illness is entertaining.

I’ve said often that I’m not a fan of reality television. I hate American Idol like cancer. I flip past the train wreck that is Jersey Shore before I get caught up in the orange-skinned gorilla antics.* Anything involving Housewives, housecats, or house hussies will also get ignored.** I can honestly say that I will take peak at The Real World, Swamp Loggers, and from time to time I’ll look at Brandy and her no-talent brother. Ice Road Truckers, Deep Sea Crab Fishermen, and Parking Wars just don’t make sense to me. Continue reading
